LUZMA ORTIZ Summer Camp Teacher

LUZMA THE HUMAN:
Luzma was born and raised in Corona, California before moving to New York City to follow her dreams as a performer. After ten years, she returned to California to get her degree and has since found love and started a family in Laguna Beach. Luzma is a graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NYC and has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theater, with Honors in Acting, from UC, Irvine. Zot! Zot!
LUZMA THE PERFORMER:
As a performer, Luzma has had the opportunity to play several dream roles including Maria in West Side Story, Emma Goldman in Ragtime and Eva Peron in Evita. In addition she has toured with various National Tours, including Dora The Explorer Live!, where she understudied the role of Dora and played Isa The Iguana in the ensemble. While on tour with “Dora” she performed in many prestigious venues around the country including the Kodak Theater in LA, now known as the Dolby Theater, and Radio City Music Hall in New York. In addition to being a theater performer Luzma also sings with her sister in the group Los 3 Ortiz alongside their father, world renowned Paraguayan Harpist and composer Alfredo Rolando Ortiz. LUZMA THE DIRECTOR/CHOREOGRAPHER:
While living in New York, Luzma spent several years working alongside Director Kristen Caesar as an Assistant Director and Teacher at Kidz Theater, one of the most sought after theater programs for kids and teens in NYC. Several of her students and show alumni have worked, or are currently working, on Broadway, national tours, or singing back up for mainstream musical artists. While at UC Irvine, Luzma studied under prestigious Directing professors Jane Page, Juliette Carrillo, and Dr. Keith Fowler. She had the honor to Assistant Direct UC Irvine’s main stage production of Avenue Q alongside Director Don Hill. She also had the privilege to Direct and debut Created: A New Musical written by fellow graduate Amy Tilson-Lumetta. Locally, Luzma has worked as a choreographer on a few projects at Ovations Performing Arts Center and as a private acting and musical theater coach since 2009 in both NYC and CA.
